Real Estate Meeting

‘Real Estate is a Local Business,’ Says Miami Developer

Real estate entrepreneur Don Peebles is CEO of privately held national real estate investment and development company, The Peebles Corp. Mr. Peebles, 59, is currently relaunching the historic Bath Club Miami Beach, a former members-only club that was founded in the early 1920s. During its heyday, African Americans and Jews were denied entry. But in 1999, Mr. Peebles—the club’s first African-American member—purchased the property, and this will be an “exclusively inclusive” club.

“Buying that property allowed me to break a tremendous barrier, and also make a statement,” he told Mansion Global.

The club also includes a residential element, The Residences at The Bath Club. Additionally, Peebles Corp. has developed mixed-use properties, hotels and residential properties throughout the U.S., including 108 Leonard Street in Manhattan and Angels Landing in Los Angeles.

Mr. Peebles also recently launched a $500 million investment fund for minority and women developers in markets that include New York, Los Angeles and South Florida.
