Through her work as a counselor, medium, speaker, spiritual minister, and author, Marilyn has touched countless lives, offering a path to healing and enlightenment. Her journey from a life of trauma and struggle to one of profound spiritual awakening and service to others is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of love.
Marilyn’s early life was marred by severe challenges. Raised in a family plagued by mental illness, domestic violence, and sexual abuse, she found herself entangled in a web of pain and confusion. Her upbringing was a chaotic mix of fear and instability, where the very people who were supposed to protect her were the sources of her trauma.
“I didn’t really know I wasn’t in reality. I didn’t know anything. Even though I went to church, my stepdad said what happens at church stays at church, and what happens at home stays at home.”
Despite attending church, the messages she received at home starkly contrasted with those from the pulpit, leaving her in a state of disillusionment. The dichotomy between her public and private lives created a deep sense of confusion and isolation.
This confusion carried over into her adult life, leading her to marry someone who mirrored the destructive patterns she grew up with, perpetuating a cycle of abuse and despair.
“I married a sex addict, alcoholic, rageaholic psychopath. I was trying suicide to get out of it,” she says.
Desperation led her to seek help from a psychiatrist, but she soon found herself addicted to medications. It was a vicious cycle, but it was in the depths of this struggle that she found a new way.
Her turning point came during a stay in a treatment facility, where she discovered a spiritual path that diverged from traditional religious teachings. This new direction provided her with the tools and insights she needed to begin healing her deep-seated wounds.
“I found a spiritual path to take me out of the religious path—to look within instead of out, instead of using my ego for survival, to look into my heart and find the love and light inside.”
This mindset has been her north star for 39 years. In 1995, she opened her practice, Angelica’s Gifts, where she offers various services, including counseling. Today, Marilyn also dedicates her life to teaching others, writing about her past, and engaging in volunteer work. Her experiences have given her a profound understanding of the human condition and the capacity for recovery and renewal.
“It led me to become a counselor, medium, writer, and author, finding all kinds of ways of helping people, especially if they have struggled with addiction. So, I’m in 12-step groups, and I pass on the information I have been wonderfully able to learn and grow from.”
Of her many accomplishments, she is especially proud of the number of books she has authored, which she believes will help readers build the lives they once thought were not possible.

She also runs an active blog, which she posts on regularly, and is a columnist for The Sussex Newspaper. For those who prefer more visual learning or media, she has a catalog of 195 videos on her YouTube channel, where she invites guests for interviews and covers many of the topics above.
Marilyn believes that each person carries within them the potential for healing.
“So what I know today is we all come in with blessings to help us turn to the light within, or the God within, and find the truth of who we truly are. And when you’re looking outside for people to validate you, support you, or make you feel like you’re successful, that’s all just an illusion. It’s not real, and it isn’t sustainable.”
Marilyn’s journey has been one of moving from making it through the day to being of service to those around her. Her early years were marked by a desperate struggle to stay afloat amidst overwhelming circumstances. However, her spiritual awakening transformed her perspective and gave her the strength to rise above her past.
“I was going through a lot of abuse, and not only in childhood, but again in my marriage. I was always in survival, and when you look inside and release all those painful experiences, you discover life is an inside job. It’s about changing my insides to find the light inside instead of looking in the darkness, which is around me—the fear-based life that was running the show. I had to release the ego messages of fear, anything negative in energy.”
Her journey out of the void began with a plea for help to her higher power, not wanting to succumb to her despair.
“Doors opened up that I didn’t even know existed to give me answers so I could move forward instead of staying in that place. We have to release the negative for the positive, and that’s basically what the programs I teach are about. So, when people have come to a situation that is so traumatic, and they just feel totally hopeless, if they cry out for help, the help is always there, but we have to come out of our denial. It’s about being self-honest. People often find this place in life through some trauma of some kind.”
Marilyn’s own experiences have taught her the importance of raising one’s energy vibration and connecting with the light within.
“Nikola Tesla said that if you want to understand the universe, it’s all about energy, vibration, and frequency. What I discovered was that my energy was very low, and so, therefore, I was actually dying when I got to treatment. The treatment doctor said I was dying, and I know today that without that light that sustains you inside, you do die.”
Marilyn’s approach to healing is holistic, encompassing various spiritual practices and modalities. She offers Holistic Health and Healing, Complimentary Medicine, Traditional and Spiritual Counseling/Therapeutic Hypnosis, Regression Therapy, and psychic readings, among other methods. Her areas of expertise include empowerment/self-esteem, relationships, domestic violence, addictions, spirituality/past lives/passed over, inspirational work, and educational issues.
Marilyn recounts the story of a young woman who came to her with deep rage towards her mother. The woman had been dropped off at Marilyn’s doorstep by her grandfather because her parents were deeply involved in addictions. Through several months of work, the woman was able to reconcile with her mother and even heal a thyroid problem.
“We worked with that for several months, and one day, she walked through the door and said, ‘I’m having lunch with my mom today over at the mall.’ I was shocked because that’s not where she was a few months earlier. We were also able to heal her thyroid problem. It’s all about getting that energy to flow.”
Marilyn’s methods emphasize the importance of removing barriers to energy flow through meditation, counseling, or other spiritual practices to help individuals reconnect with their true selves. She also employs various healing modalities, such as administering flower essences and Qi Gong therapy.
“When you’re using these flower essences, they’re pure love. Love has to flow through you. There’s a book by Thomas Sugrue called There Is a River: The Story of Edgar Cayce. Well, the river that flows through you is love, and if it doesn’t flow, it’s stuck. So, flower essences break that stuckness so that your feelings start to flow again. When that flow is stopped by fear, it causes illness and causes all kinds of hatred and anger.”
Marilyn’s impact extends beyond her individual sessions. She writes columns, teaches classes, and authored books, sharing her insights and experiences. Her writings emphasize the importance of inner healing and spiritual growth, encouraging readers to embark on their own journeys of self-discovery.
“My book, Spark of Truth, delves into historical and spiritual truths, challenging cultural programming and encouraging readers to look within for answers.”
Marilyn is also an artist and poet, using her creative talents to express and share her story. Her artworks and poetry reflect her deep connection with the divine and her commitment to helping others find hope.
One of the critical messages Marilyn imparts is the importance of trusting one’s inner voice. Raised in a church that discouraged listening to inner guidance, she had to learn to trust herself and her own intuition. This journey was fraught with challenges, but it ultimately led her to a place of profound inner peace and understanding.
“Your intuition knows what you are to do because when you come into this planet, you’ve written and agreed to a certain plan that’s necessary for you to follow through in your life. And if you don’t follow that plan, that’s when all these illnesses come along, and that’s when the difficulties and the trauma and the drama come along. So if you don’t listen to your intuition, that’s a problem.”
During her abusive marriage, financial insecurity was a significant fear that kept her trapped. Nonetheless, once driven to suicide, she found a way to break free and take a leap of faith.
“When I got into recovery, all of a sudden, my financial situation rearranged itself. Now, this is what I call a miracle. Miracles start happening when you make the decision to move out of the darkness, the pain and the trauma into the truth. Things start showing up in your life to help you pursue that, continue on that path, and give you understanding; that’s called wisdom.”
Through meditation and prayer, Marilyn has honed her ability to listen to this inner voice, which she believes is the voice of the Creator. “Be still and know that I am God,” she says, quoting scripture.
“The ‘I’ is the me. God is within me, and I have to listen to myself and get my own answers. I can’t listen to other people. So, when you’re willing to get silent enough in meditation and still your ego, some people call it the monkey brain, and that’s when real change happens. It’s the voice that rapidly says, ‘You should be doing this or that,’ and ‘What’s wrong with you?’ It’s all that disvalues you. So, you quiet those voices, and you will hear a silent voice in the stillness.”
Her extensive personal history of trauma and recovery has given her a unique perspective and the ability to empathize deeply with those she helps. By sharing these painful parts of herself, she helps her clients feel comfortable sitting in their own struggles with her.
“And that’s been the blessing—that when people show up, and they start talking, I immediately can pick up on where their pain is, how it’s affecting them and getting in the way of their growth. I actually can feel compassion and caring. They pick up on that. When you’re sharing your experience, strength and hope with somebody, there’s a bonding that occurs. And in that bonding, there is trust. I have the ability to say, ‘Well, when I did this, this is what I felt, this is what worked for me.’ We progress through in different ways to accomplish that information so that they can work through it themselves and realize they’re not alone.”
Sometimes, she will have a client who is resistant to making changes. However, the majority of her clients approach her ready to put in the time and effort required to alter the course of their lives.
“When a person is truly ready, they become open-minded. They get honest with themselves and are willing to do the necessary work to turn that fear into love. They really are healing themselves; I’m just an assistant to help them find the way.”
Building trust is crucial in her relationships with new clients, as they often share deeply vulnerable experiences. Her initial sessions with clients often involve an imaginative exercise she calls the “inside castle.”
“They visualize going inside a castle, cleaning it out, and finding a room with hidden treasures that they can carry out with them. Anytime they need more treasure, they can go back and get more. The idea is that while inside, they have to cleanse out their negative, fearful energies. Those treasures inside are all within us. A lot of it is gaining back your self-esteem, gaining back your worthiness, gaining back your patience and your understanding and tolerance. We’ve been so fearful, so shut down, that we don’t draw on our own personal attributes that are already within us. Those are our treasures. So, it’s an introductory way for people to say, ‘I can go in and remove these things blocking who I truly am. I am a loving person. I am capable. I have the ability to create in my life, and I don’t have to be victimized anymore.’ A lot of people, especially when they come for counseling, feel like a victim and like they don’t have any power.”
Marilyn’s work as a medium also plays a significant role in her counseling. She describes how she often receives messages from the other side that provide comfort and guidance to her clients. Her mediumship is a gift that she has honed over the years through practice and spiritual development.
“At first, when I started being a medium, I had to follow certain procedures and prayers of protection because the planet was still in darkness. Nowadays, I can just go into a meditative state and give a message of whatever is necessary for the situation. One of my favorite experiences was when a retired minister asked to talk to a friend who had passed. I described the spirit I saw, and he confirmed it was his friend. Then his father showed up in spirit, with whom he did not have a good relationship previously, in spirit. They talked through me and came to a harmonious resolution. The minister was overjoyed and ran to tell his wife. It felt like I healed a little bit of the universe.”
Marilyn discovered her medium abilities after her aunt’s suicide, a gift she now uses to help others connect with their loved ones in spirit. “A big part of it is that everybody can do this, but it’s about trusting yourself,” she says.
Common themes emerge from these communications.
“The message is God loves you, and you’ve never been alone. So many people doubt what’s going on in their lives, but they’re right on track. Even though we doubt ourselves, that’s not what’s really going on. I give confidence that they can accept where they are and what they’re doing is correct.”
Marilyn’s teachings emphasize the necessity of inner work and the release of negative energy. She believes that true healing and enlightenment come from within and require a dedicated effort to confront and release past traumas.
“Most people say, well, ‘Let’s get enlightened, and let’s be happy, joyous, and have a great time and stay focused, but they don’t tell anybody you have to release the negative to get to the positive.’ You can’t just focus on the positive. The negative is going to still be there. So, you really haven’t moved anywhere. It’s a false understanding that all of a sudden, you can just be happy, and things will be pulled together. The inside job is called an inner house cleaning to release past wounds, trauma, upset, and grief. You have to release the grief so you can move on into the love completely with no strings attached to the past.”
Marilyn critiques the media and culture for not promoting internal reflection as a solution to life’s problems.
“And the real lesson is that we have to save ourselves from our ego. They keep us in fear, which has been programmed through us for the last several thousand years in culture, having us look outside and think we are separated and powerless like we have to have somebody come and take care of us, like Superman or some other savior. We don’t have the actual help and understanding of how to return, generally in our culture, to looking within for our answers. The truth is that we are always loved, we’ve always been validated, and we’ve always been successful if we’re connected to that higher energy and light within us.”
Through her lectures and classes, Marilyn aims to open people’s eyes to the work they need to do internally.
“Shakespeare was right: life is a play. In one of my meditations, I described imagining all my family members onstage at a play, taking bows. I just clapped my hands vigorously, and I said, ‘I bought it hook, line, and sinker. You played your parts very well.’ So when you’re ready to look at the reality of it, it will come to you. And then it’s a matter of finding, you know, answers that will also work for you because everybody has their own pattern and path to reveal the truth.”
Her audience often responds emotionally to her talks, finding a deep resonance in her words.
“One of the attendees at a talk I did met me at the door in tears, and she said, ‘When you said that you saw your parents onstage taking their bows and clapping your hands, that they played their parts so well and you bought it hook, line, and sinker, I never saw it that way before.’ And she was just overwhelmed. See, when you share your experience with someone else, that’s where the healing comes. It’s a little like we don’t have to carry the rock around anymore. You can have a whole paper bag full of rocks, and we’ve been carrying them all our lives, and guess what? We get to put them down and forget them and walk away in forgiveness and compassion.”
Marilyn Redmond’s story is one of resilience, transformation, and service. She has emerged as a beacon of hope from a life filled with pain and darkness, guiding others toward their own light. Her teachings and practices offer a path to healing that transcends traditional methods, focusing on the inner journey and the power of spiritual connection.
“We have to release the negative for the positive,” she says. “That’s the inside job.”
She recounts her past resentment towards her mother, shaped by her mental illness and the limitations it imposed.
“Because my parents went through the Great Depression, I just didn’t have the things the other kids had. They were always very concerned about money, and so I had a lot of anger about how I felt I was missing out. I actually felt like the Little Match Girl, a story where a little girl looks through a window on a cold, snowy, icy winter day, and everyone inside is having fun, joy and celebrating, and everything is happy and in good spirits. I was the little girl outside the window looking in, and that’s how I always felt for years and years. Today, that’s changed around in that I’m actually inside having joy and fun. We have to identify all those things that block us from allowing it. I had built lots and lots of walls around me to protect me from being hurt again, and what I really found out is that in putting up those walls, I actually blocked the love from coming in, too.”
Now, Marilyn responds to life with love, unlocking the universe’s gifts.
“When you respond in love, it’s like the universe opens up and brings you the gifts that are already yours because of your inheritance as a child of the universe, a loving, benevolent, creative force. That’s what we’re here for—to be that light inside, the love inside, and to share that and be in service and connected so that we all come together in a heartfelt connection rather than our separation. The separation isn’t true and real, but that’s what we’re taught growing up in most cases.”
Marilyn’s work is a testament to the power of inner healing and the profound impact it can have on individuals and the world around them. Through her tireless efforts, she continues to inspire and uplift, sharing her wisdom with all who seek it.
As Marilyn continues her journey, she remains committed to helping others find their light and heal from their past traumas. Her story serves as a potent reminder that no matter how hopeless life may seem, there is always a path forward.
“We have a choice. Are we going to move into the reality, love, calm, peace, and tranquility in our lives, or stay in the hopelessness that comes from living in fear and separation? The choice is ours, and it is a choice that we make every day. We have to move out of our heads, our egos and into our hearts. That’s the success of life; the rest will come to you when you get there.”
