According to a 2019 International Spa Association (ISPA) Foundation survey of 1,000 USA spa-goers, about 49% of American spa visitors are now men – up from about 29% in 2005. I discovered this fact in a recent cover story in Travel Weekly.
This spring, two female entrepreneurs will even open a spa concept called the Beer Spa in Denver, where men can not only drink a craft beer – they can also sit in a special bath that’s infused with beer ingredients, which can include hops and malted barley. This spa will also have a tap room where male spa goers can help themselves to brewskis.
The famous Badrutt’s Palace Hotel has always surprised its guests with special treats and made the unthinkable possible. This winter season the newly created Wellness experience will certainly be loved by all male and female spa and sauna fans: Two beautiful old gondolas have been brought back to life, and are now being used as outdoor saunas. With adjustable lighting, beautiful wooden benches and hot coals this very special Wellness treat will find many apres-ski, apres-snowboarding fans. If the heat gets too much, male and female guests can simply step outside and cool off in the refreshing snow. I can’t think of a better respite after cross-country skiing.
And it’s not surprising. After all, this famous luxury hotel of the glamour set was founded by ski jumper Johannes Badrutt. From 1883 to 1892 he added curling rinks and the world’s first toboggan run, and basically invented winter tourism.
Next to this very special Wellness add-on, the Palace Wellness Spa & Pools offers two private spa suites for treatments of the guest’s choice, a large indoor infinity pool, a beautiful outdoor pool with panoramic views and a Jacuzzi. For sauna-loving visitors Palace Wellness offers a mixed sauna for both sexes, plus a ladies’ sauna, an aroma steam room, a calming salt steam room, a refreshing ice room and a mist room.
