Texas Governor Orders National Guard To Assist With Arrests At US-Mexico Border

Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered the state’s national guard members to help assist the Department of Public Safety in arresting undocumented immigrants at the US-Mexico border.

Abbott’s order was a part of a letter sent to Major General Tracy R. Norris of the Texas Military Department. The order itself expands upon Abbott’s June declaration which directed the DPS to enforce all federal and state criminal laws. These laws include anything involving criminal trespassing, smuggling, and human trafficking.

“That declaration had allowed the use of all available state resources to assist state and local law enforcement in protecting Texans from criminal activity and property damage,” according to news reports.

“To respond to this disaster and secure the rule of law at our Southern border, more manpower is needed,” Abbott wrote in the letter

“DPS needs help in arresting those who are violating state law. … I hereby order that the Texas National Guard assist DPS in enforcing Texas law by arresting lawbreakers at the border.”

The order comes after the Biden Administration announced its plans to tackle the surge of migration and illegal contraband coming into the country through the border.

“President Biden’s open-border policies have paved the way for dangerous gangs and cartels, human traffickers, and deadly drugs like fentanyl to pour into our communities,” Abbott said in a statement.

In June, border authorities stopped around 188,800 crossings, which was the highest for the entire year. The previous high of about 180,000 was set in May of this year.

“People think that this is a border-related issue and it is, but this is also an issue that affects counties across the entire state of Texas.”

Abbott held a security briefing at the Texas state house in Austin this month, where sheriffs from local communities have expressed concern over a lack of manpower, jail space, and judges on the local level. So while the governor is focusing on combating illegal activity at the border, local authorities are struggling to protect their own communities.

Black Lives Matter Activists Call Out Double Standard Of Police Response In Capitol Riots

Hundreds of Trump supporters violently stormed the Capitol building yesterday after the current president encouraged the crowd to not back down from fighting one of the “most fraudulent elections in US history,” despite the past two months of evidence disputing every single one of Trump’s claims.

Rioters broke windows, destroyed offices, vandalized government property, and looted, causing social media to blow up with claims of double standards and the obvious white privilege that these individuals carried to be able to simply walk into what was thought to be one of the most secure buildings in the US.

Beyond that, many began posting images from the past year of peaceful Black Lives Matter protests that turned violent due to police and military presence alone. Hundreds of thousands of videos began recirculating of the national guard and police throughout America tear gassing, shooting, and assaulting peaceful protesters for simply expressing their first amendment rights, yet dozens of white Trump supporters were able to simply walk in and out of the Capitol as they pleased.

One of the most impactful images shared showed the Capitol building steps this summer covered with National Guard troops in preparation for a DC Black Lives Matter protest; prompting many to question where the Guard was yesterday, especially since the DC Mayor called on them two days ago in anticipation of these riots.

The Black Lives Matter Global Network released a powerful statement about the blatant racism and white supremacy that was exemplified with yesterdays act of domestic terrorism. They stated that the riot was just “one more example of the hypocrisy in our country’s law enforcement response to protest,” and unfortunately, no one was surprised.

“When Black people protest for our lives, we are all too often met by National Guard troops or police equipped with assault rifles, shields, tear gas and battle helmets. Make no mistake, if the protesters were Black, we would have been tear gassed, battered, and perhaps shot.”

Videos online began circulating of the DC National Guard and police armed and wearing camouflage uniforms on the steps of the Lincoln memorial during a peaceful protest following several days of Black Lives Matter demonstrations in the city; rioters made it into the Capitol yesterday and remained there for hours before the National Guard was activated.

The DC Mayor also implemented a 6 p.m. curfew when the Capitol first was stormed, however footage showed hundreds of Trump supporters still outside the Capitol building long after that curfew had passed. If we remember back to the Black Lives Matter protests this summer, the police would pull people walking home from work off the street and arrest them for being out past curfew.

There’s also another double standard in the way in which political leaders and media outlets report on these protests and riots. When it was Black Lives Matter protests turning violent due to an aggressive police presence shooting tear gas and rubber bullets at non-threatening protesters, the narrative turned into one where the protesters were the ones inciting violence and leaving the police with no choice but to control the crowd violently.

When we look at what was going on yesterday, Republican commentators and leaders immediately took to Twitter and told the rioters not to “become like the other side,” immediately shifting the blame from the domestic terrorists who destroyed federal property to individuals on the other side who “would’ve responded the same way.”

The reality is it was Trump’s supporters who enacted so much violence and made dark history by storming a federal government building to protest a legitimate election. So far four individuals have died and 53 have been arrested. The FBI has opened an investigation and will be reviewing every picture and video posted online of those who were in the building, and time will tell how they will all be charged.

Mayor Of Washington DC Calls On National Guard Ahead Of Pro-Trump Protests

The National Guard has officially been mobilized to Washington DC ahead of a multitude of pro-Trump demonstrations current scheduled for this week at Congress; where members will be convening to certify the 2020 election results as well as the runoff election results that will appear this week.

According to DC’s police chief the Guard will be used to help control crowds and manage traffic jams. Mayor Muriel Bowser initially requested for the Guard to be activated and brought into the city after urging residents and others to stay home, stay safe, and be cautious when out today.

“We’re asking DC residents and people who live in the region to avoid confrontations with anybody who’s looking to fight, and the best way to do that is to avoid the area.”

Congress is scheduled to officially meet on Wednesday and formally count the Electoral college votes, declaring Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States. Donald Trump’s election loss was confirmed last month, however, the current standing president has made constant baseless claims of voter fraud and a rigged election, and has even filed multiple lawsuits against states that he lost; all cases have been thrown away due to a lack of evidence.

This Tuesday Georgia will be holding runoff elections that will determine which party controls the Senate, which also has prompted the mayor to call on the National Guard. Organizers are already planning on rallying this Tuesday evening at Freedom Plaza and all day on Wednesday. At 1 p.m. on Wednesday the organizers are planning on marching to the Capitol as well.

Trump himself has been encouraging the rally on Twitter, where he also claimed that he would be at the rallies themselves to celebrate the “historic day.” More than 300 District of Columbia National Guard personnel will be deployed throughout the DC streets this Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Guard will mainly be stationed around Metro stations and main roads to help individuals cope with any road closures or public transportation delays. Major General William Walker is the commanding general of the DC National Guard who said that they would be a major supporting role in keeping the city and its residents safe.

Man arrested on gun charges after officers spotted him carrying a concealed firearm during a pro-Trump rally at Freedom Plaza on January 5, 2021

Acting Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee warned all demonstrators that guns, firearms, and weapons of any sort are not permitted at the rallies, and claimed that the police department already received some staggering information regarding the demonstrations.

“We have received some information that there are individuals intent on bringing firearms into our city, and that just will not be tolerated.”

Back in December several individuals were stabbed during altercations at a Pro-Trump rally, and who can forget 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse who shot and killed two individuals at a Kenosha rally months ago.

A leader of the Proud Boys – an alt-right neo-fascist male-only organization – was arrested this week after entering into Washington after being accused of burning a Black Lives Matter sign that had been torn down at a historic Black Church during a rally in December. He also allegedly was holding two high-capacity magazines, his intent was unclear.

Regardless, safety is always a concern when it comes to alt-right groups that the president is further encouraging online with dozens of tweets of a rigged election and failed democracy, anyone in the DC area stay vigilant this week, and remain indoors as much as possible, after all, we are still in a pandemic as well.
