You Can See Jupiter and Saturn Alongside The Moon This Month

A celestial treat is in store this month for stargazers, as the planets of Jupiter and Saturn will align with the moon over a 3-day period.

Both of the gas giants will be visible alongside the moon between August 9-11, according to EarthSky.org, during the Perseid meteor shower that’s expected to peak on Aug. 13.

Despite the moon’s glare, both planets will be easy to spot, thanks to Jupiter being the second brightest planet in the night sky only after Venus. The solar system’s largest planet will be visible from dusk until late at night.

Saturn is the 4th brightest and will rise shortly before sunset this month, staying up until around dawn.

The planets will eventually align on Aug. 11, with the moon covering up Saturn, albeit this will only be visible from Australia and New Zealand.
