Massachusetts, located in the New England region of the northeast, is the perfect state to visit for a full, fun-packed getaway. Whether you are a history buff, prefer to go sightseeing, take a walk along the beach or love your music, there is something for everyone in The Bay State.

Music lovers flock to the state that brought us Aerosmith, The Cars, James Taylor and New Kids On The Block in search of the festival experience. Nantucket, located 16 miles from Cape Cod, is a popular island whatever the season. Currently there are around 10,000 permanent residents however the number of people on the island increases significantly during the summer season.

And it is easy to see why. Some of America’s most stunning beaches can be found in Nantucket including the popular Children Beach along the north shore and Jetties Beach, which also has a skateboard park, playground and tennis courts. Those looking for the ultimate wave should head to the south shores and the beaches of Tom Nevers Beach, Surfside and Miacomet as they have the best surf and currents.

While you are in Nantucket a visit to the Whaling Museum is a must. Following the restoration in 2005 there are many activities you can visit including a 46-foot sperm whale skeleton, the restored 1881 tower clock or the 19th century candle factory.

You can also head to the rooftop deck and look at the breathtakingly beautiful views of Nantucket harbor. The museum also houses a shop where you can buy merchandise to do with Nantucket taking you full circle from past to present and back again!

Neighboring island Martha’s Vineyard is another location we are sure you will love. With affluent residents using the island as a summer holiday location, the island can be a lot quieter in the cooler months.

One of the most popular activities for visitors to the island is the boat excursions on offer. Many of the boating companies provide tours lasting between two hours and two weeks, depending on your requirements. You can book tours around the island or even a little further with companies such as Island Sailing Tours providing day trips as well as tours around New England and even the Virgin Islands.

Boston is a multi-cultural destination that provides fun for all members of the family. However one of the best days out in the area is a trip to Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox. Open since April 20 1912, the park is central to the heart of Boston and is full of dreams, excitement and of course baseball.

As well as seats for the big games you can take a one-hour tour of the park and see the inside of the Red Sox Nation. The tours can also be provided in Spanish or Japanese on request.

Another outdoor location to head to is Boston Public Garden which, established in 1837, is America’s first public botanical garden. In keeping with the Victorian traditions The Parks Department have continued to grow rich and unusual plants as well as maintain the lagoon and fountains. While you are there you can also take a ride in one of the swan boats that have been operated by the same family for over a decade.

A trip to Boston is not complete without a day spent at the Boston Tea Party Ship and Museum, which looks at the events of December 16 1773 when three ships full of British East India Company tea arrived from London, England. While the ships were moored in Boston Harbor 340 chests of tea were tipped overboard – wasting an estimated cargo of more than $1.7 million in today’s money – prompting the start of the American Revolution.

Massachusetts is also home to some of the country’s most exciting museums including the Peabody Essex Museum and the Norman Rockwell Museum as well as the Old Sturbridge Village, which is the largest outdoor history museum in the Northeast. Set out like a rural New England town from the 1830s, visitors can see how people lived in the 1800s. With buildings including a school, bank, meetinghouses, a working farm, store and trade shops, the museum also has homes so you can see not only how we used to work but also how we used to live.
