Britney Spears New Memoir Reveals She “Went Along” With Conservatorship For Her Children

Britney Spears is releasing her highly anticipated tell-all memoir, “The Woman In Me,” this week. In it, she discusses the struggles of her 13-year conservatorship under her father, Jamie Spears, revealing that she “went along” with it for “one very good reason,” her children.

‘Controlling Britney Spears’ Documentary Further Exposes Singer’s Struggles Under Conservatorship

The New York Times released their follow-up to the ‘Framing Britney Spears’ documentary which detailed the abuse and struggles Spears has endured under her 13-year conservatorship. The newest installment is called ‘Controlling Britney Spears,’ which includes claims that her phone was monitored and recorded at all times and her security team even installed recording devices in her personal bedroom.

The newest documentary is 70-minutes and aired last Friday Night. It’s currently available to watch on FX on-demand as well as Hulu. The documentary interviewed Felicia Culotta; Spear’s former longtime assistant, Latisha Yates; onetime head of wardrobe, Dan George; former your manager, and Alex Vlasov; a former security staffer. Vlasov especially revealed the extensive security measures Britney endured at the request of her father, Jamie Spears.

The individuals listed above detailed how Jamie would work directly with the head of Black Box Security, Edan Yemini, as well as Robin Greenhill, an employee of Tri Star Sports and Entertainment Group, which worked to handle the business side of Spears’ career. The insiders discussed how Jamie would meet with these individuals to oversee nearly every aspect of the singer’s life.

Vlasov claimed that “the trio had a group chat that discussed every step she took, including closely managing her intimate relations. Greenhill proposed setting up an iPad to monitor her iCloud activity, including texts, notes, calls, and browser history. Conversations with her friends, her mother, and her then lawyer were all closely watched.”

Vlasov didn’t just make empty claims, however, he provided emails, texts, and audio recordings from his nine years as an executive assistant and operations/security manager. In the documentary, Vlasov shows an email from Ingham asking Jamie’s legal team for “confirmation that no one other than my client can access her calls, voicemails, or texts, directly or indirectly.”

“Elaborate surveillance operation allowed almost every aspect of her life to be controlled by people, including her father and Greenhill. It really reminded me of somebody that was in prison, and security was put in a position to be the prison guards, essentially.”

Vlasov discussed how Yemini had installed an audio recording device in Britney’s bedroom back in 2016 which captured more than 180 hours of audio; including conversations between the singer and her boyfriend and children. He then explained how Jamie was “fixated” on his daughter’s male friends and potential love interests, and would make countless individuals sign long NDA’s and contracts.

Yates discussed how Britney was constantly denied small pleasures by her father and Greenhill. These pleasures included sushi, sneakers, or any other new products that caught her eye. Yates recalled a time where Britney was told “you had sushi yesterday, it’s too expensive.” The documentary also noted how, at the time, Jamie was paying himself $16,000 a month from Britney’s personal bank account.

The newest film’s release comes just days before a court decides on the future of Britney Spears’ conservatorship, which has been instituted since 2008. Between 2008 and now, the pop star has barely had any time to rest because of how much she was being worked. One of the biggest points made in these documentaries is how a majority of the individuals in the legal field who have worked with individuals under conservatorships before, claim that they’ve never had a client under the control of a conservatorship who was also working; let alone constantly touring, promoting and releasing new music and business ventures, etc.

In June, Britney was able to address the court herself for the first time. She spoke in depth about the flaws of the legal/judicial system that kept her in the conservatorship for more than a decade, while also condemning her conservators, managers, and family, calling the entire arrangement abusive.

The judge then authorized Spears to choose her own lawyer, and on September 29th, the court will be considering Mathew Rosengart’s – her chosen lawyer – request to remove Jamie Spears as the conservator of the dinger’s estate. On September 7th, Jamie surprised the public by abruptly asking the court to consider whether to terminate the conservatorship entirely, which they will also be considering this week in court.

Jamie Spears Will Retire As Britney’s Conservator, According To Court Filings

Britney Spears’ father, Jamie Spears, will eventually step away from his role as conservator to her estate once a proper plan is set in place, according to new court filings released this Thursday.

David Glass, a certified family law attorney who is not involved in the case, recently spoke to the media about what Britney and her team need to do next in order to give the pop star her proper freedom.

“The next step is that Britney and her legal team need to either propose the same person that they’ve been proposing, take over the conservatorship, or else work with Jamie and his attorney to find an agreeable third party who could step in as the conservator.”

“Either way, that conservator is going to be a professional fiduciary, either an individual who does this for a living and is licensed and bonded or a financial institution like one of the big banks who do these things regularly,” added Glass.

Spears’ new attorney Mathew Rosengart shared the name of the individual that Britney wants to manage her conservatorship in court filings last week. The court documents claim that Jason Rubin has been nominated to be appointed as the conservatorship of her estate.

Rosengart spoke at a press conference after requesting Rubin as new conservator, in which he claimed that the Los Angeles Superior Court and his team “were moving aggressively and expeditiously to have Jamie Spears removed from the conservatorship.”

Rubin is a long-practicing certified public accountant who would have the power to “obtain all documents and records relating to [Spears] and her assets, whether held in her name or in the name of another, all contracts, information relating to credit cards, bank statements, estate planning documents, receivables, and any and all powers of attorney,” according to official documents.

Christopher Melcher is another family attorney who’s not directly involved in the case, but has been following it closely. He claims that the Spears estate still has a lot of money on the line as it pertains to the expenses that Jamie Spears will be seeking payment for; earlier this year he requested his daughter pay nearly $2 million of his own legal fees.

“What Jamie Spears filed today is by no means an unconditional resignation. He’s asking for $1.2 million in attorney fees and additional compensation. It’s inappropriate for him to condition his resignation on receiving material benefits.”

Melcher explained that Jamie’s “resignation” reads more like a “condition-of-surrender.”

“The half-million dollars plus Jamie is asking for in crisis communication and PR fees is not something that Britney’s estate should pay for. To ask the estate to pay fees aimed at rehabilitating Jamie’s public image is ludicrous,” he explained.

In an Aug. 5 filing, Rosengart claimed that “Jamie Spears still seeks compensation’ from Ms. Spears — of $1,356,293 in attorney’s fees from Oct. 17, 2020, to June 30, 2021, including a shocking and inexplicable $541,065.50 for ‘Media Matters.'”

Britney Spears’ next court date regarding her conservatorship case is set for September 29th.

Britney Spears Files To Have Accountant Replace Father As Conservator

An attorney working for Britney Spears has officially filed to make the pop star’s new conservator her accountant Jason Rubin; a position that’s currently being held by her father. Lawyer Matther Rosengard made the official request in a Los Angeles court filing this week.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Rosengart filed a petition to remove Jamie Spears, her father, as a conservator and replace him with Rubin. In a recent court hearing. Spears spoke for herself and stated that she wanted her father removed immediately, and would like to sue him for abuse.

Rosengart just recently started representing Spears after she was able to choose her own lawyer in a landmark decision made in her conservatorship case last month. Spears has been enduring this arrangement for 13 years now.

The conservatorship means she has no control over her finances, estate, career, social media, or reproductive rights; she claimed in court that the individuals working in her conservatorship refuse to let her take out her IUD.

After Spears delivered an emotional testimony last month that spread throughout social media, the icon has gained a slew of public support, including a message from Congress who invited Spears to the White House to better break down the issues with abusive conservatorships all throughout the US.

Spears claimed that throughout her conservatorship she was forced to perform and take medication against her will. Her top priority has now become terminating the conservatorship, but mainly removing her father from the role of conservator.

Spears also claimed that she would not be performing as long as her father still had control over her career and finances.

“There’s a real question as to why Mr Spears does not voluntarily step aside today. Today. Does anybody really believe that Mr Spears’s involvement in the case is in the best interest of Ms Spears?” said Rosengart earlier this month in court.

Spears is due back in court on September 29th, where a final decision over her father’s removal as conservator will be made.

Britney Spears Now Able To Hire Her Own Lawyer In Case To End Conservatorship

Britney Spears received an amazing victory in her battle to end the conservatorship that she’s been in for 13 years now. The pop star is now able to hire her own lawyer to help end the conservatorship which Spears herself has called “abusive.”

The conservatorship currently gives Britney’s father, Jamie Spears, full control of her business, estate, finances, social outings, and personal affairs. He is currently the sole individual in charge of her $60 million estate.

“You’re allowing my dad to ruin my life. I have to get rid of my dad and charge him with conservatorship abuse.”

Spears spoke in front of the court via phone call in an emotional testimony filled with understandable rage and sadness. She claimed to have always been “extremely scared of [her] dad.”

“I’m fed up with the multiple psychological evaluations and want the conservatorship brought to an end without another one. I’m not a perfect person, but my team’s goal is to make me feel like I’m crazy.”

This marks the second time Spears has been able to address the courts herself since the conservatorship began. Last month she made headlines after calling the legal arrangement abusive and stupid in a passionate 20-minute testimonial.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny approved of former federal Mathew Rosengart to be Spears’s lawyer. Rosengart spoke to the media after this major announcement, claiming that he would be filing a petition to end the conservatorship and remove Jamie Spears as the conservator “as soon as possible.”

“We will be filing a petition as soon as possible to move Mr Spears, subject to our formal retention. As I said in open court, a very fair question is: Why is Mr Spears not voluntarily stepping down? He does not belong in this conservatorship any more. And we believe he should voluntarily step down immediately,” Rosengart claimed.

This has been a major win for Spear’s fans all around the world who have been advocating for her freedom from the conservatorship for years now.

“This is not just about Britney alone. This is about every other person who is trapped in one of these, what I would call a prison,” said 34-year-old Patrick Thomas, head of the recently formed Free Britney America group, whose group is pushing for a congressional hearing and federal oversight of conservatorships.

As Thomas mentioned, Britney’s current situation has opened up a much larger conversation about abusive conservatorships in general, and the unfair control they give certain individuals.

Britney Spears’s Court-Appointed Lawyer Resigns From Conservatorship

Samuel Ingham, Britney Spears’s court-appointed attorney has asked to resign from the conservatorship that has controlled the pop star’s life for 13 years. The news of his decision comes after Spears was able to speak in front of the court for the first time since the conservatorship began.

Ingham’s resignation also follows the withdrawal of a wealth management firm that was also involved in her conservatorship. The legal arrangement has given Spears’s father and other parties intense authority over her career, finances, personal life/decisions, and medical care since 2008.

Last month when Spears spoke in front of the court she claimed that she wanted the conservatorship terminated, telling the judge that it was abusive and forced her to perform and take medications against her will, as well as controlling her reproductive rights.

The law firm Loeb & Loeb which has been working with Ingham on the case has also announced its intent to resign. Ingham has faced some of the most backlash out of anyone on Spears’s team due to the fact that he wasn’t even the lawyer she wanted to begin with.

The conservatorship in place means that Spears has to let her estate choose her lawyer and any other attorney’s involved in the case. Ingham has made up to $3 million as her lawyer.

Investigative documentaries and articles from the Times and New Yorker have exposed a majority of Spears’s team as being a part of the conservatorship and caused a major wave of public support for Spears and her release.

Spears also claimed that she wasn’t ever made aware that she could petition to terminate her conservatorship despite the fact that Ingham claimed he presented that option to her numerous times; a claim Spears immediately denied during her testimony.

While internal records have already revealed that Spears forcefully complained about the arrangement with a court investigator, Ingham never filed to end the conservatorship. In recent years, however, he has at least filed requests to get Jamie Spears, Britney’s father, removed as a conservator.

Legal experts claim that if Spears is able to hire her own lawyer it could expedite the process to challenge and terminate the conservatorship, however, Ingham’s sudden resignation could mean that her estate will choose another attorney for her, which could bring her back to square one of fighting this arrangement.

Spears’s manager, Larry Rudolph, also announced his resignation this week, in what most spectators are viewing as a last minute attempt from Spears’s team to get out before the full truths of her conservatorship and all those involved are revealed in the court.

Britney Spears Speaks Out After Request To End Conservatorship

Britney Spears spoke for the first time in front of a judge to request an end to her conservatorship. After the pop star made headlines with the shocking revelations of what her team and family have put her through, she took to social media to speak to her fans directly who have been so supportive and outspoken about the abuse Spears has faced over the past two decades.

“I just want to tell you guys a little secret, I believe as people we all want the fairy tale life and by the way I’ve posted … my life seems to look and be pretty amazing … I think that’s what we all strive for !!!!” Spears posted on her Instagram.

“I’m bringing this to people’s attention because I don’t want people to think my life is perfect because IT’S DEFINITELY NOT AT ALL … and if you have read anything about me in the news this week … you obviously really know now it’s not !!!!”

“I apologize for pretending like I’ve been ok the past two years … I did it because of my pride and I was embarrassed to share what happened to me … but honestly who doesn’t want to capture their Instagram in a fun light !!!!”

“Believe it or not, pretending that I’m ok has actually helped … so I decided to post this quote today because by golly if you’re going through hell … I feel like Instagram has helped me have a cool outlet to share my presence … existence … and to simply feel like I matter despite what I was going through and hey it worked … so I’ve decided to start reading more fairy tales,” Spears concluded her post.

While the Instagram caption seemed to make sense in terms of the week Spears’ has had, many of her fans who have led the #FREEBRITNEY movement have exposed multiple times that the singer is not in control of her own social media as a part of her conservatorship.

This became especially apparent with the release of the “Framing Britney Spears” documentary and numerous press conferences her father and his attorney have held in which they claimed Britney was fine and liked the conservatorship. Many fans said if she really felt like that why has she never said anything herself? Why is it always through other people or a screen and never from her voice directly?

Well, during the virtual hearing in a Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, Spears finally was able to speak for herself, and she didn’t hold back with how much she despised her conservatorship.

“I want changes and I want changes going forward. I don’t want to be evaluated to determine if I’ve regained my mental capacity. I just want my life back. All I want is to own my money and for my boyfriend to be able to drive me in his car. I want to sue my family.”

Spears must now file a formal petition to end the conservatorship, something she always had the ability to do, but was never told she could. After the petition is filed an investigator will be appointed by the court to the case, and they will speak to everyone involved in the current arrangement.

Future court proceedings may be sealed moving forward until an actual solution is met, however, one thing is now for sure, the world truly knows what Britney Spears has been enduring throughout her whole career, and a change will be made.

Britney Spears’ Attorney Files To Have Her Father Removed As Conservator

The attorney requested that the judge who is overseeing her court ordered conservatorship remove her father, Jamie Spears, as the conservator of her person and permanently replace him with Jodi Montgomery. This request came in from a petition filed by Samuel D. Ingham III in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Jamie Spears has been Britney’s conservator of both her person and estate since 2008. Montgomery has served as the singer’s temporary conservator ever since Jamie stepped aside due to health issues in 2019. In the filing, Ingham cites an order that was filed in October 2014 that determined Britney Spears “had an incapacity to consent to any form of medical treatment,” and that was the cause for Montgomery to take over.

The filing asked that “along with overseeing Spears’ medical decisions, Montgomery be able to restrict and limit visitors by any means, except from meeting with Ingham. It also asks that Montgomery be able to retain caretakers and security guards for Spears.”

After a series of personal issues that played out publicly for Britney back in 2008, her father and attorney Andrew Wallet became conservator’s of her estate and personal life. In 2019 Wallet resigned giving Jamie total control over the singer and her $60 million estate. Ingham initially filed to remove him as sole conservator back in August 2020.

Jamie Spears claimed he has not talked to his daughter since Inghams filing, and back in December told the media that he loves Britney and missed her very much. “When a family member needs special care and protection, families need to step up, as I have done for the last 12-plus years, to safeguard, protect, and continue to love Britney unconditionally. I have and will continue to provide unwavering love and fierce protection against those with self-serving interests and those who seek to harm her or my family.

Jamie Spears’ attorney, Vivian Lee Thoreen, told CNN last month that “Jamie would love nothing more than to see Britney not need a conservatorship. Whether or not there is an end to the conservatorship really depends on Britney. If she wants to end her conservatorship, she can file a petition to end it.”

The New York Times documentary, “Framing Britney Spears” caused interest in Britney’s career and conservatorship case to skyrocket within the past year, leading to a massive increase in the #FreeBritney movement.

Britney has not commented once publicly regarding the ongoing conservatorship battle, and instead responded to recent speculation that she wouldn’t ever perform again.

“I’ll always love being on stage. But I am taking the time to learn and be a normal person ….. I love simply enjoying the basics of every day life !!!! Each person has their story and their take on other people’s stories !!!! We all have so many different bright beautiful lives. Remember, no matter what we think we know about a person’s life it is nothing compared to the actual person living behind the lens,” she wrote on Instagram in February.

The next court hearing is currently scheduled for April 27th.

Justin Timberlake Apologizes To Britney Spears Following Conservatorship Exposure

After the New York Times documentary was released last week the public has been scrutinizing the industry, media, and multiple individuals within it that helped lead to the demise of Britney Spears.

Britney Spears’s Conservatorship Case Heading Back To Court

The legal battle over Britney Spears’s finances and conservatorship is heading back to Los Angeles court this Thursday, just days after a new Hulu documentary sparked widespread outrage over the controversial guardianship the pop star has been living under that is typically only for elderly individuals with dementia or other cognitive issues that make them unfit to be in control of their own finances.

Jamie Spears, the pop stars father, maintains control over her estate, career, finances, social media, medical treatments, and a slew of other aspects of her personal life; he’s also had this control for the past 13 years, so any career endeavors that Spears has endured within that time, including her Las Vegas residency, were not her decision.

Lawyers for Spears filed last year to have Jamie removed as conservator, arguing that she was “afraid of her father” and would be refusing to resume her performing career while he still had control over it. In November a judge refused to remove Jamie but added Bessemer Trust as co-conservator and corporate fiduciary. This Thursday’s hearing will include a discussion of what role the two conservators will play in overseeing Spears’s estate.

Supporters of Britney Spears attend the #FreeBritney Protest Outside Los Angeles

Conservatorship by definition is “a form of court-appointed guardianship that is typically used for elderly and infirm people, or others who can’t make decisions for themselves, the arrangement is often temporary.”

The release of Framing Britney Spears, a New York Times-produced documentary, has now “raised questions about the fraught process that led the courts to institute the conservatorship, Jamie’s role as a conservator, the motives of Spears’s entourage in keeping the arrangement in place and the media’s treatment of the star.”

The documentary followed Spears’s rise to fame and the intense abuse she faced by paparazzi, the media, and fans as well. The approval of her conservatorship was partially a result of the American media painting Britney to be mentally unstable. The documentary also depicted Jamie as an absent father up until he took on the conservatorship in 2008, when he gained complete control over her finances.

The biggest question raised by the documentary is how can someone who the court deems unstable enough to be in control over basically every aspect of her personal life be stable enough to go on multiple tours, perform a Las Vegas residency, work as a judge on X-Factor, etc. The amount that Britney has done in her career within the past decade does not line up with an individual unfit to be in control of their own finances.

American pop culture, the media, and the entertainment industry in general is now being analyzed with a fine-tooth comb, specifically over how it treats female performers and makes light of their struggles. The film also featured the #FreeBritney movement, “a fan-led campaign advocating for the singer to be freed from conservatorship and from her father’s control. Organizers said this week they hoped the reaction to the film would put pressure on the courts to restore the singer’s independence,” according to the Times.

Leanne Simmons, a #FreeBritney advocate who was featured in the documentary, told the press recently that the documentary “has lit a fire under all of us to keep pushing, because we do have that support from the general public. I work in post production in the film industry, and have been closely following the court case and plan to attend the Thursday hearing in person.

“We’ve been trying to get this message across for so many years, and to essentially have the narrative change overnight is pretty extraordinary. The documentary was hard to watch. It brought me back to that moment of watching this in realtime in 2007. I felt so frustrated back then like no one was listening to her, or to me when I would try to defend her. I can’t believe it took this long and this documentary for people to realize that it was always wrong.”

Spears publicly acknowledged the #FreeBritney movement for the first time last year through her lawyer in court, when he claimed that Britney was “trying to regain some measure of personal autonomy, and she welcomes and appreciates the informed support of her many fans.”
